    I am doing a trial. Each time I reopen a document I get the message that there is no profile associated. I started off by selecting a standard profile and then tried creating a custom profile and subsequently reloading it and got the same result each time. I have click on the save in the word document and eaDocX and got the same result each time.

    Can you generate any kind of document?
    Just right-click on a Package, then select Extensions | Quick Document, and see what happens.
    This should produce an initial document, which you can then modify.

    Hi

    I’m having the same problem. I’m using a custom profile that is stored in a different directory that the standard profiles.

    When I use the option Open this Version, a message is displayed No eaDocX profile in this document.

    Where does EADocx record the profile used for a document ?

    Hi Peter,
    Just a small point of clarification about Profiles and where they are stored.
    Each eaDocX Word document has a Profile of its own, which is saved inside the Word document. This is the one which is used to generate the document.
    You can also use the built-in Profiles which we supply, or save your own and re-use those. In both cases, they need to be Loaded into your document, to add to or replace bits of the document’s own Profile.
    If you use Quick Document to create a document, then eaDocX will scan your EA model, and invent a Profile based on what it finds, which you can then edit (usually to remove the bits you don’t want) using eaDocX.
    The Profile save/load is there just in case you want to share a Profile with someone else, but where you can’t send them the whole Word document (which includes its Profile). Sending the whole document is better, as the Profile may contain the definitions of which Word Styles to use, and these only make sense in the context of a document.

    Hi

    I believe the issue is that the custom profile is not being stored in the word document. As a result when I try to view the document the message appears.

    The reason for this is that I turned on the trace logging and noticed the last entry Failed to save XML Profile in the CustomXML.

    We need to standardise our documents and apply new profile versions to existing documents if the standard layout changes. From what is said above I am not sure that eaDocX will support this.

    I am still having the problem, any idea when you might have a resolution? I was going to demo to our users and this would not look good. Furthermore, I just realised that when I reopened the document it had not only lost the profile but also all the links to sections in EA so I can not test versioning and change marking reliably.

    Answer to last question about updating Profiles . (i’m getting confused as to which question I’m answering..

    If you save the profile from one document, then it can be loaded into other documents, and they will then use the same formatting as the original. This applies to the way each element and element+stereotype is printed: columns, widths, tables or inline etc, but not the content which each document contains. That stays with each document.
    So, if you want to change the look of a family of document, just re-load the new Profile in to each one, and re-generate.

    Thanks, I was getting confused. I still need a resolution to the profile and sections being ‘lost’ when I reload a file. I am using Office 2003, would that be a factor?
