Use Sparx EA Diagrams To Define Document Contents
With eaDocX
A really flexible way to create a document from your EA model is to use a diagram to define your document contents. In this way you can create a document out of any combination of elements from anywhere in your model.
Use EA diagrams to design your documents
eaDocX will print EA diagrams whenever they appear in a package, plus all the rest of the package contents, all under the same word heading – this is the default setting, independent of whether or not the diagram and package contents are related.
Simply drag components into a diagram, and right-click on the diagram. Then choose from the print options:
Diagram Only
Choose Diagram Only and eaDocX will just print the diagram in your document, including the diagram description.
or Diagram and Contents
Choose Diagram and Contents, and eaDocx will print the diagram and it’s description, plus the details of all the elements which appear in the diagram. In this way you can create an EA diagram with elements drawn from many places in your model, but have all the elements printed together, under the diagram.
What if the diagram contents are moved?
If components in your diagram are moved within the model, your diagram will still print correctly, as it’s the contents of the diagram that are printed, regardless of where the elements came from.
This makes it easy to create documents which are made up from a mixture of existing reference information and newly created content.
Contents not Diagram
In this case the diagram itself is not printed, but all it’s contents are. For an example of how you might use this option, see Ad-hoc diagrams.
There is also the option to Exclude Diagram. In this case the diagram and none of it’s contents are printed.
