What you can put in an eaDocX Section
An eaDocX document section can be created from EA in many different ways.
Section Contents
A Package
… and all it’s sub packages. You can choose which kinds of elements to print, which diagrams, and print the contents of diagrams as well, which brings in elements from other packages.
A Diagram
Either print:
-
- just the diagram,
- diagram and all it’s contents,
- or just the contents.
If you choose (3) then this is a great way to create a document section using a completely custom group of elements. Just drop them on a diagram, and choose to print the diagram contents. See Printing diagrams
An Element
… more unusual, but allowed.
An Element report
Choose an element type or stereotype and print all of them, wherever they are in your model. Or use the contents of an EA Search. See Element reports
A Matrix report
Not just an EA matrix, but tailored with extra source, target and relationship information. See Matrix Reports
Adding a Model View section
Collect content from different parts of your model into an EA ‘Model View’. See Using Model Views
Document Information
For the full set of options, see Document Information
A Glossary
eaDocX reads your document and prints only the EA defined terms your document contains. See Document glossary
Adding Word fields.
A Word field is some data about your document defined by Word. Unlike other sections, Word Fields can be insert anywhere in your document (except inside a section). For example, you might print the Title of the document in the header.
This menu option is just a short-cut to the standard ‘insert a field’ function of MS Word.
Document Information sections can also contains any of these Word fields. See Document Information.
Deprecated section types
Some options were present in eaDocX V5, but have been removed, because nobody seemed to use them:
- Adding sections based on EA native generator model and master documents
- Section based on an EA Gap Matrix. Nobody seems to use the EA gap matrix.
- Sections based on project-wide data, such as project issues, project authors. Most people use normal elements for these ideas, as they are much more flexible.
