Phone Home

Most software has some function which tells you when there is a new release of software which you might like to use.

We call ours ‘Phone Home’.

When is Phone Home called?

eaTeamWorks will call out to our server every 3 days.

What information is sent?

The information passed to the server is:

• License keys of any eaTeamWorks products which you have bought
• Your IP address and MAC address, and whether we think you might be using some kind of Virtual Machine.
  We use this to detect fraud. So, if the same License key is used by multiple IP & MAC addresses, this probably means someone has copied your license key. Unless you’re using a VM. But don’t worry – if we think your key has been stolen, we will just cancel it and give you a new one.
• Which eaTeamWorks products you are trialing. This is so we can help you get the most from your trial, and experience the most useful functions.
• A list of the features of each product which you have used.
  We use this internally to decide where to concentrate our development and testing effort.
  This piece of data is immediately aggregated into all the other feature data from all other users for that month. We’re not interested in what any individual has used, but what all of our user base is doing.
  This is a simple list of feature codes and counts. For example, using eaDocX Quick Document is feature 99, using Revision Manager to import some data into EA is 4001, so you might send us (99,12)(4001,2). So none of this data tells us anything about the content of your models.

You agreed to send this data in the eaTeamWorks terms & conditions, which also promise that none of this data is made available to anyone, ever. There is no option to opt-out, though if your computer is unable to access the internet for any reason, then eaTeamWorks will operate as normal.

What do you get back?

Phone Home can show you a range of useful information:

• General information about what’s happening in the Sparx EA world
• Specific release information for each of the eaTeamWorks products, eaDocX, EA Revision Manager, eaSheets and Model Expert. We’ll just tell you about the ones you have bought, not all the others.
• If you have a trial, we will point you to some of the interesting features of the product.

What we do NOT do.

1. We never share any of this data with anyone for any reason.
2. We do not download new versions and install them. We know that our users are often in highly controlled environments where this wouldn’t work anyway. We think that downloading a new version is your choice. So we just tell you there is one which you might like.
