    Dear eaDocX Support

After years of using the eaDocX Plugin we are going to change the way we’re using applications in our company, and we ran into an error.

Until now we had a local installed Enterprise Architect 13 with eaDocX plugin installed, as well as an installed M365 Office including Word. We could use all three components perfectly fine!

Now we are going to use a Citrix VDI with an installed Enterprise Architect 13 (same version), the eaDocX plugin is installed as well (same version), both are working fine in general and show menus and license-details. M365 Office is installed as well, including Word. Everything relies on AppV packages being rolled out onto the VDIs.

The error: when we try to use eaDocX in the Citrix VDI, we can’t open an existing Word document or create a new one. The embedded Word just doesn’t show up, and after a while we get the attached error message, sometimes with a few more details.

Can someone please give us a helping hand here?
    Thank you 🙂

I sent the above question to the old support-e-mail and Ian replied, and as well asked to add this post in the forum.

    Hi Kai,
I don’t have an environment where I can test this, so I can only guess about possible solutions.
Most likely problem is that one of the MS Word DLLs which eaDocX needs has not been installed when 365 was installed in the new image. (I think this is what the error message says, but my German is not great).
Maybe see if there are options when installing 365: it used to be that we needed to install a “professional” versions of MS Office to make the DLLs install, and this only came with the version of office which would work stand alone. That is, with no internet connection.
    See if this helps.
    Thanks
    Ian
(Also, please add this question to the forum, so that other users can see the question and the answer – that’s the only way we provide support now)

    Hi Ian
Thanks for your superfast response, as always!!
We just checked the mentioned details with our software packaging engineers and (of course) got the question in return, if there’s a technical documentation for eaDocX is available where all needed DLL are listed. Can you help with this details, please?
I’m about to add this topic to the forum as well, as you mentioned it! Future topics and requests will go there directly.
    Thanks and kind regards
    Kai

The key DLL which must be installed is called Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word.dll.
If this is not installed on your machine, then eaDocX will never work.
I strongly recommend that you do NOT just copy this DLL from another machine: use the appropriate Microsoft installer. This will make sure that any dependencies which the Interop DLL has will also be installed at the same time.
Please also note that we do not prodvide support for virtualised environments: there are too many of them, and we have no way to test them all.
