Hi!
I have created a component (element) and added a number of artifacts (User Stories) to it as children. I am now trying to create an Excel extract of the component and its children, and I am having issues.
If I initiate Excel from the component, I am forced to choose whether the extract contains the element or its children. When I extract the children, I do not seem to be able to extract any of their attributes. The spreadsheet contains only the names, and it does not allow me to create a profile for the Artifacts (despite the fact that the elements which are being extracted are Artifacts). Any changes in the profile seem to revert to an extract of the component.
When I extract the component (i.e., highlight the component and initiate eaXL), the extract does not include the children (Artifacts). I am unable to select “Output child elements” (grayed out), and I cannot “force” the profile by checking “Artifact” under the Elements.
If I extract the package containing the component, I see the component but not the child artifacts, and I am able to select “Output child elements” from the attributes screen in the profile, but the children are NOT included in the output.
If I initiate Excel from one of the artifacts, the extract contains the name of the artifact, but the profile does NOT show that an Artifact has been extracted.
Note that the artifact I have used is the User Story artifact from EA (I did not create the stereotype).
Curiouser and curiouser. I have now been playing with my extract. In extracting the package, if there is an Artifact element at the package level, ALL the artifacts (i.e., the children) can be included in the extract and, on the profile page, Artifact shows up as an extracted element. and I am able to extract the attributes of the children. However, as soon as I move the artifact out of the package (e.g., make it a child of the component), ALL the artifacts disappear from the extract.
Can I get an extract which includes:
Component (with selected Attributes)
Child Artifact (with selected Attributes)
How??
Have I, by some chance, uncovered an undocumented “feature” of the application?? :silly:
Thanks for any information!
Tom
we are aware that the treatment of child elements, and other sub-elements, in V3 isn’t complete – we are looking at it for V4, currently under development. There will be no change to the V3 function in this area, so please make the best use of what there is until V4 is available.
