Trying to generate a Gap Analysis matrix from the ones in my EA model. EADocX will generate a matrix with “New” / “Missing” columns….. but the content is missing!

All I want to be able to do is to generate out the content of a Gap Analysis matrix. EA doesn’t support this in any way, so have to use EADocX. It recognises the Gap Analysis exists as it requests which one to generate, but it is empty.

    Any clues?

    EA Version = 12.0.1215
EADocX Trial Version (latest of website)

I just re-ran the test, and it checks-out in v3.9.3.8.
    Steps I took were:
    1. Create the gap matrix in EA (V13)
    2. add some text to the cells
    3. save the profile with
    4. add ‘gap matrix’ section to eaDocX
    5. choose the
    profile to print
    6. Seems to look ok

Is this what you did ?

BTW – Like most people, I think this EA feature is rubbish: to get a ‘gap’ I seem to have to replicate all the elements in my architecture.
If you could have your idea solution to this, what would it look like? I ask because we’re exploring how this might be implemented better in Prolaborate.

Yes, did all of that. What I have since discovered is the Gap Analysis Matrix is not populated for elements of type “Class”.

Therefore if want to look at items of TOGAF stereotype <> and see the GAP Analysis this works fine. If I want it to look at elements of type Component <> or Class elements, then it doesn’t generate any content.

Any clues as to why this is? I can generate tables out of the item using an Element Matrix and it works ok, but the Gap Matrix isn’t giving me what I want!

    BTW –
I think that the way EA does it is ok, as it aligns with having a Baseline and Target Architecture and then doing a diff between the two, this is acceptable when following TOGAF ( although yes it is annoying that you have to duplicate elements. I think you can get around this by using ABBs in both Baseline and Target architevture which have an ABB mapping to a common Architecture content instance).

I can’t seem to reproduce this, but then , I don’t have much TOGAF content to test it on.
If the EA Gap Matrix looks ok, then please send me a sample XMI which I can use to replicate the problem.
If the Gap Matrix doesn’t appear in EA, then please report to the EA forum
