    Hi,

So I created a new Favorites folder in the Model View. I added some packages and some diagrams. Then going back to eaDocX, I added the Favorites folder to the Word Document (Insert -> Section -> Model View -> My Favorites folder).

I can see in the Preview pane that all the packages and diagrams are listed there. I can also right-click on any diagram and request that the diagram with all its content be generated in the document.

But when generating the document, no diagram is displayed, nor any content :pinch:

Yes, I do have a profile selected. Yes, it works when adding the diagram to a section from the Project Browser. It only doesn’t generate the diagrams from the Model View.

I am using eaDocX version 3.8.5.0.

    Please assist

    Thank you,
    Minrie

    Hi,

I just uninstalled my version of eaDocX and installed version 3.9.3.4.

Sadly the problem still exists exactly as described in my first post :pinch:

Please help since using the Model View to generate a document (with diagrams) is a great feature and I would REALLY like to use it 🙂

I’ve just re-tested this, and it all seems fine, so we must be doing different things.
    Here’s what I did:
    1. Opened a new Word document in eaDocX
    2. Created some Model Views with a ‘favorites’ folder, and added some content into it
I have two Favorites folders, each with a bit of content drag/dropped from EA

    3. Added some sections to my document, using the Model Views
    – one using the ‘all’ option to use all the favorites
    – the other using just one of the favorites folders
    4. Generated
(I note that in the eaDocX Preview pane, when I selected ‘all’ favorites, the preview doesn’t expand nicely to show me what is in the favorites folders, but it does if I choose a single favorite (my version is 3.9.3.4 – note to self to fix)
    5. Some stuff appeared, but lots of things didn’t have a Profile. So, for example, Packages didn’t print their diagrams, so I changed the Profile for Package
    6. It all looks fine – all aspects of the Profile got used, including conditional formatting.

So what exactly did you do ?

    Hi,

    Thanks for the Feedback!! :cheer:

Ok, I see. In your case, your Diagrams are in the Packages that you add to your Model View. I followed the example used in the Help file for ‘Create an eaDocX document using Model View’.

    It has the following:
    – Package 1
    – Package 2
    – Package 3
    – Package 4
    – Diagram 1
    – Package 5

So if those Packages contain a Diagram you want to show, just make sure the Package Profile is set to show Diagrams. This also work at my side, no problem 🙂

The problem is with the above example where the Diagram itself (Diagram 1 as in the ‘Create an eaDocX document using Model View’ Help file) won’t generate in the document. :pinch: It does show up in the Profile Pane and I can include its contents, but it doesn’t generate in the document. If I do this from the Project Browser, there is no issue.

I hope this better describes the problem I am having.

AhHa – I think i get it now. When I create a Favorite with just a single diagram, then it doesn’t print.
This wasn’t a test case I thought would happen – a favorite with one diagram is equivalent to having a section with the diagram in it. But I’ll have a look anyway, just for completeness.

OK – found the bit of code which said ‘nobody will ever want to do this’ and added what you need!
    Now on website as 3.9.3.5

    Hi,

Thanks a lot for updating the code. In the new version 3.9.3.5 the Diagram does get generated  But now when selecting the option to add content, no content is generated in the doc :pinch:

Wow, that was really fast update of the code and support given by guys, I am impressed B)

    Thank you 🙂

I tried to better describe what I really want to do and hope you can assist.

A standard document have the following:
    – some text to describe your sections
    – the data you want to reuse: = your Diagrams with their elements and description (Diagram content)
= the elements in a Package with their description, etc.

I would like to have a Package for each different Document I want to create with the relevant document text. And then drag the content diagrams and elements into eaDocX in the right place. See ‘Project Browser’ attached file.

So this is the process I would like to follow:
The packages in the ‘Doc1’ folder contains my document text in the notes (description). I would now like to add my diagrams in between in the right place as displayed in the second attached file ‘Desired result’. The reason for this approach is to allow a user to have different documents text (in a package) and reuse the data (diagrams) over and over in each of these documents.

Is there a way to achieve this? Reusing a diagram from one package in several other documents (other packages)? I know you cannot have one section inside another so I am looking for an alternative approach or methodology that I am missing…. I did look the help files for ‘Related Elements’ and ‘Structuring your document’ but none of them really solves my problem of using unique diagrams in different documents (packages).
