Can eaDocX have more than one profile for the same element(and stereotype)?
I want to present the same element twice in the same document. Once with just the tagged values and a second time with its connected elements. This seems to require two separate profiles? How Do I do this.
I hoped that I could include a second Word document ( created in eaDocX) as a subreport, which would solve the problem but this was not obvious.
Thanks
I second an enhancement in this area. One way to achieve this would be a feature to create additional profiles for the same element type e.g. UseCase, UseCase (b), UseCase (c), etc.
When creating sections in the doc, the first element profile would be picked up, and we would have the option to select another profile if available.
Then of course eaDocX doc generation would have the find and process the right profile.
We have received this requirement a couple of times before, but have not added it because of the complexity which it will add the the user experience. That doesn’t mean we’ll never do it: we just need to understand how we can add it WITHOUT making the UI even more complicated.
We’re aware that this is how EA got so complicated – by adding more and more features which satisfy power users, but mean that ‘regular’ users get a more and more complex product.
So, if you guys can suggest:
– where and how will a user say that ‘this Profile (element type/stereotype) is for this section(s?) only
– how would this look in the ‘Profile’ tree view?
– what happens when the user changes the name of a section which has a section-specific profile?
– ..and those are just my first questions.
Thoughts ?
As a quick suggestion ( as I have my day job), have a higher level in the Profile tab ( Profile 1, Profile 2) .
When an element is inserted and the type and stereotype occur in 2 profiles prompt for a profile number or name. Otherwise just profile 1. Store the profile number in Word. This approach would not bother new users unless they need a second profile. Alternately a document could have partitions where a unique profile is applied.
Of course if subreports were supported (By having an insert option that points to a separate word file) this would e simpler.
Hope this answers your question.
I did not answer your question about what happens if the name of a section is changed.
This suggests that the section name and not a unique id is used to identify the section.
perhaps using both may be necessary.
hope this answers your question.
