eadocX SupportParticipant
I have just been testing with excel 2016, and it looks like it really REALLY doesn’t work.
This happened when Microsoft went from 2010 to 2013: the underlying programming model changed the way Excel can be embedded in other applications. In the case of 2013, it just means that the Excel window floats away, and can’t be docked inside eaDocX. But it still works.Well now it looks like this problem has gone away with 2016, but lots of other new issues have appeared. I can get the basics to work, with some fiddling, but the Excel UI remains un-responsive: I can’t edit anything!
I tried to use Excel 2016 with the Sparx equivalent, and their excel exporter freezes-over as well.
Looks like we have LOTS more work to do to make this work!In the meantime, I will update the system requirements to sat that eaDocX, as of version 3.7, DOES NOT SUPPORT EXCEL 2016.
Sorry about this, but we are stuck in the middle of two very large organisations – Sparx and Microsoft – who constantly change how they do things, and we have no control over either of them.
Sorry 🙁eadocX SupportParticipantUPDATE – I have just contacted another customer who is using Office 2016, and they report that it’s working OK for them.
I notice for the install of Office 2016 (which is still running…) that it uses the Click2Run technology, which downloads bits of Office as the users needs to use them. This MIGHT be the problem. No solution – yet, but there is no underlying issue.eadocX SupportParticipantWe are still working on this. We need to build a new test environment with Office 2016, which we need to schedule around doing other stuff, so its not instant.
We did try installing 2016 on a demo server, and it can use Word 2016 just fine: we didn’t use Excel for that demo…eadocX SupportParticipantAll suggestions are welcome. Doing an overhaul of the UI would be tough on those who’ve used it already, but it’s something we’re thinking about at the moment.
The trick is to make the basic experience as simple as possible, but still have lots of options to allow you to customise things.
Oh, and as someone who has just watched a total novice try to use an iPad for the first time, the Apple UI isn’t obvious either:-)eadocX SupportParticipantExperiment with the setting in eaDocX 3.7 which allows you to set a maximum size for a diagram image, so that this doesn’t happen.
See Doc settings / Diagram settings / Maximum Diagram Height (portrait and landscape).
You’ll have to fiddle a bit, as you’ll need to take account of the header & footer sizes of he document, and the font size of the ‘Figure X’ texteadocX SupportParticipantTricky one.
I think I’ve done this by selecting one of the sections (all the pink bits and the brackets) and moving it elsewhere, adding some whitespace, then moving it back.
Make sure you have a backup copy of the document first!eadocX SupportParticipantI tried this on our test server, and it (briefly) did as you said, then I found the trial licence has expired, so we are now downloading the full version, and we’ll get back to you.
eadocX SupportParticipantAh 🙂 Now I see what you’re trying to do…
Short answer is No – in eaDocX, the design point is to print the same thing in the same way, regardless of where it comes up in the document.
But, you can fix it, but it does mean making model changes, which I know is not a great answer.
If you give the attributes in the ENUM a special stereotype, then eaDocX will let you print the two different types of attributes in different ways.
Or, if you really feel clever, then use an EA script to decide how to print them, but I don’t recommend this as it’s quite technical.eadocX SupportParticipantI’m not quite sure that I fully understand what you are trying to do, but I’ll try…
You are quite right that you can have separate Profiles for printing Classes and Enums.
Either can be printed as a Table (one row per element) or as ‘Inline’ – one heading per element, and one paragraph per element field.
If you print as ‘inline’ then you can also choose to print the Attributes of the Class or Enum (see the sub-elements list).
If you choose to print, say, the Attributes of each Enum, then eaDocX will use the Profile for ‘Attribute’ – again, either as a table of attributes, or Inline.
Does this help ?eadocX SupportParticipantWe are now in a position to move forward with a solution to this issue.
We have a new version of the Crypto software, but we have not been able to check that this will definitely deliver a solution. This is because we have not yet managed to create VMs with Windows Server 2008 Sp1 And SP2, which would be required in order to check that the solution works (first step is, of course, to reproduce the original issue..). We only have access to newer Server versions 🙁
So, what we can do is send you a new LSA, created using the new Crypto software, which you can then check has solved the problem.
We know this is a rather strange way to do testing, but the alternative is to wait around whilst we create these VMs, which will take a while. This approach should hopefully deliver a solution much faster. If you would like to try out this solution, the please email support@eadocx.com, and don’t forget to include the IP address and port number of the machine where you want to run the LSA. We’ll then load your LSA onto the website where you can download it. (we suspect that most email systems will filter-out a mail with a ZIP file which contains an executable)
Thanks

eadocX SupportParticipantThere are some example scripts on the website.
See https://store.eadocx.com/web-downloads/scriptseadocX SupportParticipantYou are quite correct that it’s not possible to NOT print the content of a Package with eaDocX. Early versions let you do this, but we had so many inquiries about ‘why don’t my Packages print properly’, and no requests to miss-out the contents, that we decided to make it mandatory.
So Packages always print their contents.
There are some ways to get around this, however:
1. Don’t create Profiles for the contents of the Package, and nothing will print
2. Create a stereotype for the packages which you would like to print in this way, then create a Script which prints packages with that stereotype in the way you need‘hope this helps

Go to eaDocX | Tools | Options and Settings. (Next to the Generate document tab) There you can select the Word, Table and many other styles for your document. These will then be remembered as part of the document profile so you won’t have to re-format every time.- This reply was modified 9 years, 1 month ago by eadocX Support.
eadocX SupportParticipantHello
EAXL options are greyed out if you are working with Professional edition. They are available only for Corporate and Collaboration edition users. Note however that they are also available in the 30-day free TrialeadocX SupportParticipantEither
1. Upgrade EA to version 12 Build 1215 or higher, which is where they implemented the new API which eaDocX is trying to use or
2. Switch off the saving of eaDocX document into EA. This is in eaDocX Repository Settings / Document Management default settings / 5 – Save documents internally = FALSE -
