As I said in another post, I’m currently waiting to be sent some examples of where eaDocX DOES NOT work with mySQL.
I have done a quick regression test, with the bits of eaDocX where I use bespoke SQL (as opposed to the EA API) and it all seems fine.
Maybe it didn’t work for me before, because I was using a too-new version of mySQL (5.6) which isn’t yet supported by EA.

Sounds like a very good requirement, but you’re right, it’s not possible at the moment.
I will put it on the list for v3.4 – For reference, it’s backlog item #134

OK – All up and running now with EA and mySQL.
…and I just ran a few QuickDocuments (always a good way to test lots of bits of eaDocX and EA) and they seemed to run just fine.
What exactly were you doing in eaDocX to produce the error ?
Are you able to send me an XMI, which I can load into my lovely new mySQL database ? (support@eadocx.com)

Had a bit of a wasted day yesterday looking at this – I didn’t realise that EA doesn’t support the latest version of mySQL, so had to de-install 5.6 and go back to 5.5, and now I think there are some secret 5.6 bits still around.
    Grrrr.
    I have complained to Sparx!

That’s great – I have now reproduced your problem.
Fix is available in 3.3.10.3 which is now on the website.
I just added some code next to the comment which helpfully said ‘add code for non UK/USA date formats here..’ 🙂

Even though its a popular DB, we’re struggling to get eaDocX to play nicely with mySQL: we have to make lots of calls direct to the EA DB, and the SQL dialects are different. We can do SQLServer and Oracle, as these are the ones we see most often.
I’ll have a look again at getting mySQL to work.
    Don’t worry – it’s nothing that you’re doing!
In the meantime, can you dump the data from mySQL into EAP in order to produce your documents, just until I get the mySQL to work ok?
    Sorry for the bother.

Just tested this, and it seems OK in my configuration.
Are you using this on a machine with USA date formats? Maybe it’s that ….

Perhaps I can clarify how we think you might use eaDocX
“I need to create a document for each use case…” – this would be a very strange way to use eaDocX, especially as you have 1000 Use Cases!!
What you can do is create a document, and design an eaDocX Profile for Use Cases, which prints them in the way you want them to look. Do the same for Systems, processes, Requirements etc. Then choose a Package which contains some use cases etc, and generate the document. All the use cases/Processes/etc will then print in the same style.
So you can print 10, 100 or 1000 use cases, all in 1 document, and they will look the same.

If you save this document as a Word Template, then the eaDocX Profile will save with it. To create a new document containing different EA content, create a new Word Document, tell eaDocX which is your new EA Package, and generate. Or just save the document with a new name, and similarly specify the new EA Package.

You are correct that the definition of the document is not kept in the EA model: that way, a user using eaDocX does not need write-access to the model.

However, if you use the Document Management feature of eaDocX Corporate Edition, each time someone generates a document, you can keep a reference to that document in the model (this does need write-access) so that everyone can see what documents have been produced, and, if they are all saved on a shared drive, can open and copy them to create new ones.

    I hope this helps!

    I see your problem.
This whole InformationItem thing is a corner of EA which I’ve not visited before.
As you say, you can print the InformationItem.name, or a hyperlink to the InformationItem, but these appear like attributes of the underlying connector, not elements in their own right.
I can’t quite see how to do this, as it upsets some quite fundamental parts of eaDocX.
One work around might be to use the Hyperlink option, then get eaDocX to print a Element Report, Cross-reference style, which will print all the items which you reference via the Information Item.
I’ll have another dig around for v3.4, but I’m not confident…..

You can re-order elements of the same type within a section. Search for ‘sorting’ in the help.

excellent question – but a rather long answer….
When eaDocX re-generates your document, all the contents of each section are deleted, then replaced. So, conventional Word change-bars wouldn’t accurately show what has changed.
    You have two options:
1 – Using eaDocX Change Marking: this adds a color of your choice to elements or diagrams which have changed since a date you specify. I usually set this to the publication date of the last version. See help at https://store.eadocx.com/help/index.html?change-marking.htm

2 – Use eaDocX Corporate Edition Document Management. This will create a whole new document each time you re-generate your document, if you choose to up-version it. So you can then use either the native Word ‘document compare’ function, or the simple front-end which eaDocX applies to the same function, to produce a document will all the change-bars you need. This will give much finer-grained control over the visibility of changes, down to the last comma or full-stop. see https://store.eadocx.com/help/index.html?document_management.htm

    Hi Phil,
You’re correct that pre- and post-conditions are printed using the Profile for ‘Constraints’.
Can you send me an example of what you’d like your use cases to look like?
Also, have you found the extra attributes at the bottom of the list for ‘Use Cases’, which are ‘pre-‘ and ‘post-condition summary’? These might give you some more options.

Ah yes- I know about this one.
It comes about because EA keeps the eaDocX settings in a user.xml file, which is created from new for each EA release, in a new folder under user/app data/….
I can’t figure out how to go searching the user’s appdata folder, to look for older EA versions, and then read the old user.xml.
Maybe I’ll ask Sparx to use the same appdata each time…
