Analyzing your EA Model
Before you can start to manage your model, it’s a good idea to start by understanding what’s in it.
For larger EA models, this isn’t possible just by opening packages and looking at what’s inside – there are too many, and too much EA information is hidden away in connecters, tagged values, and other hard-to-find places. Model Expert provides two ways to look into an EA model, package-by-package.
Report | Description | See Also |
---|---|---|
Package Dashboard | A report on the the contents of a package, and gives you a quick summary of what’s happening in that package. | Understanding your model-the Package Dashboard |
Snapshot meta model | Shows the detailed structure of all the elements under a single package | Snapshot Meta-Models |
Note: Model Expert always works on either a single Package, or a single diagram.
This is because most models have different packages for different kinds of model, or packages for each project, so analyzing a whole model wouldn’t give useful insights.
If you try to analyze all of a large EA model, then be prepared to wait: it may take a long time.
