Show tagged-value links

 Some elements are ‘linked’ to other elements via a tagged-value, which contains the GUID of another element. This is effectively the same as a link, and this option shows those ‘links’ as connections on a meta-model diagram. (Default=ON)

You may also choose a color for these types of connection.

Diagram line widths

 On Snapshot meta-model diagrams, the width of a connector shows how many examples of that connector type are in your model. You can change the number of model connections for each type of line by changing the upper- and lower-limits.

Use this option to highlight highly-used links.

Note: only 3 widths are possible, because that’s all that EA supports.

Show links to foreign elements

 When just analyzing the contents of a package, elements outside the package are foreign elements. Use this option to control whether you want to see links to these element types. (Default=ON)

If you choose to show foreign elements, you can choose their color.

Note: if you choose ‘Include diagram contents’ then the meta-model will not contain any foreign elements.

Diagram type for all diagrams

 This option tells Model Expert to create a diagram type for each diagram it finds, useful if you want to create a Reference model. It will create a reference model diagram type for each diagram it finds, and a summary diagram for each EA diagram, to show which element types each one can contain.

If the package is just a regular bit of modelling, where there may be lots of diagrams with the same kinds of contents, we suggest you set this to Off. Then Model Expert will just look for common diagram types..

Diagram Options
  • Draw summary diagram: Draw a diagram with all element types on it
  • Show parent/child relationships: Show/don’t show the parent/child relationships between element types. Relationships still exist in the Reference Model, but diagram is a bit easier to read. Note: these parent/child relationships may be an important part of your model, so the meta-model won’t be 100% accurate if you choose not to show them.
  • Noise threshold: Suppress connectors which have small numbers of examples. Also makes it easier to see the important connector types in a complex model. You can set the level of connectors to suppress/show. Note: this does not affect the Analysis: all element types are still analyzed, it just that not all are shown in this diagram.

Include diagram contents
  • When un-checked, the Analyzer will look at all the elements under your chosen package, then look at the connectors those have. Connections with elements outside the package are shown on the meta-model diagram as ‘foreign’ elements.
  • When checked, the Analyzer will not only look at the elements under the Package, but all the elements in all the diagrams under the package, even where those elements are located elsewhere in your model. Which means that no element types will be flagged as ‘foreign’.
