What ‘Implementing’ means
When you “Implement” elements, they are put back into the ‘As Is’ model.
If an element was previously ‘branched’, then implementing it will replace the original element. The GUID of that original element will be kept, but everything else about it will change to be the implemented element.
If you created an element in your project, then it will be made ‘implemented’, and saved where it is.
Who can ‘Implement’ ?
To implement an element, you must have write permissions to it’s source element (if it was previously branched) and write permissions to the project.
This means that ‘implementing’ a project will usually be done by someone with more permissions than a project modeler, as implementing an element will change the ‘As Is’ model, which may have implications for other projects.
The Implementation view
This shows the list of elements which you chose to implement, and checks that you can implement them.
Reasons you can not implement an element:
- You do not have write permissions to the source element
- You are trying to implement a branched element, but another project has already created a ‘planned’ version of the same element. And PM does not allow two planned elements from the same source: they must follow each other in sequence.
- The element is already implemented
Warnings
- If you are implementing a branched element, and another project(s) already have branched he same elements, then you may be about to impact those projects. You can still implement, but think hard before you do so
Actions
Click ‘Impact Analysis view to see more details on the impact of implementing the elements you have ticked
Click ‘Compare to baseline’ to see what the current and ‘As Is’ version of each element currently look like, before you make the change.
