Time machine

The Portfolio Manager Time Machine allows you to animate an EA diagram to show future states.

Using the Time Machine

Open an EA Diagram, and in the diagram area choose Portfolio Manager / Time Machine. You cn then dock the Time Machine pane to the left or right of your diagram, so you can see the Time Machine slider, and your diagram, next to each other:

Creating a new Time Machine diagram

The time machine works using just two tagged values of an element: startDate and endDate.

For each element in a diagram, PM will show an element if:

  1. There is no startDate or endDate. This is the default
  2. If the time Machine selected date is after the startDate, and before the endDate. If there is no endDate, the second part of the check is ignored.
  3. if there is no startDate and just an endDate, if the selected date is before the endDate, then the element will appear.

Creating start- and end-Dates

These dates will be created automatically by PM when you:

  1. Promote an element. The new element will have a startDate which is copied from the implementationDate of the project which owns it. The element it will replace is given an endDate which is the same date.
  2. Implement an element. Here, the startDate is set to todays date. The old element will be retired. The Time Machine does not show retired or archived elements: you can only travel into the future.
